Depending on their specific role, a sports broadcaster may also be responsible for the research and preparation of each broadcast. This may include studying team and player statistics, reviewing previous games and researching relevant storylines or narratives. Additionally, sports broadcasters must be able to collaborate effectively with the production team to coordinate camera angles and to ensure that the broadcast is well-rounded and engaging.

While the primary methods of sports broadcasting today are via television, satellite and webcasting, radio is still used to some extent as well. Those interested in getting involved in the industry should consider attending networking events, gaining experience at their local college or university’s campus radio station and/or seeking out an internship with a professional sports team or media outlet. Eventually, many sports broadcasters move on from the small-time stations where they got their start and find employment with larger networks in more populated areas. At this point, it may be beneficial to enlist the help of an agent, who can help facilitate the search for new positions and negotiate contract details on behalf of their client.
