Eight childhood friends, three University of Michigan grads and one bachelor party campfire is how Detroit City Distillery got started. Now they’re bringing the wow factor to the Metro Detroit spirits scene.
The distillery creates small batch artisanal whiskey, gin and vodka using local ingredients sourced directly from farms near its distillery and tasting room located in Detroit’s famed Eastern Market. At the height of the COVID-19 outbreak, the distillery knew their product would be in high demand and quickly jumped on the opportunity to provide hand sanitizer to organizations that needed it so frontline workers could keep protecting themselves.

Jerome credits his friendships and relationships with all seven of his business partners for the company’s success. The team has been together since they were kids and he credits a lifetime of cooperation and collaboration for their ability to work well as a group and solve problems collaboratively.
In addition to their line of spirits, the distillery offers a unique collection of themed cocktails that rotate seasonally to highlight the flavors that come to life in each of the different drinks. Currently, the menu features Topsy’s Revenge, a fruity vodka cocktail with lime, lemon bitters, vanilla oak and hellfire bitters served in a cute elephant glass, as well as a rum-and-fruit shot called The Real Macaw served in a parrot shooter.
A new addition to their permanent lineup, Two Faced Blended Straight Bourbon, was created in partnership with another Michigan Distillery, Two James. The new bourbon blends Kentucky wheated bourbon with 50% Detroit City Distillery rye to produce a smooth and balanced spirit that’s perfect for sipping or mixing. The distillery is also a proud supporter of Michigan’s farmers and food producers, and supports their efforts through its Farm To Bottle Fund, which helps to provide grants to organizations that need assistance in developing and growing their agricultural enterprises.
